KIA GRAND CARNIVAL PASSENGER CONVERSION.On the 17th September 2010, we took possession of a Kia Grand Carnival that had been converted by Freedom Motors Australia, Sydney. After months of research, we felt that the Freedom Motors conversion was most suitable to our son’s specific needs. We chose the passenger conversion as it still allowed us to have a family vehicle with 5 seats. We were concerned that there may not be much leg-room etc. in the back of the vehicle but we were pleased to find that there is adequate room for 3 people. We carried out a great deal of research on all wheelchair conversions available and found it quite daunting, even when looking at the images on the web sites, to actually imagine what the vehicle would really be like – how far back the ramp would go and the weight of ramp etc. We were fortunate to be able to actually inspect a Freedom Conversion vehicle and try our son in the rear and see how easy the entry and exit was for both the adult and the carer. This is what convinced us to go forward with our own conversion with Freedom Motors.From our first conversation with Sandy, we were put at ease and she was very knowledgeable with any concerns we had. We had intended on going with a Tarago conversion as we had been extremely happy for many years with our current Tarago. Sandy advised that, from her experience, the Kia Grand Carnival was a better option. We accepted her recommendation, and Freedom arranged for the purchase, registration etc. of our vehicle. This made things easier for us as we live in country Queensland. It was a lot easier that Freedom had the vehicle right from the start. Sandy was very helpful and understanding whenever we emailed her with queries and allayed our concerns. When we went to take possession of the vehicle, we were given a very detailed demonstration of all the workings and features of the conversion. We were very impressed with the look and ease of the conversion but it was not until we started our son’s daily routine of entering and exiting the vehicle for his various activities, that we fully appreciated the benefit of the conversion. We have found that our choice of the docking station feature has been extremely beneficial. It saves a great deal of time and effort and our son just drives in, the docking station engages, and we are on our way. We would thoroughly recommend Freedom Motors for the quality of the conversion and the time and effort taken by their staff to answer all our questions. It has made life so much easier for us and most importantly our son as it has given him more independence and dignity, to not be lifted into and out of the car every time.
