Again we would like to warn all those people who are considering purchasing a wheelchair modified vehicle from one of those backyard discount modifiers. They will promise you the world and give you only worries. What they will give you for the money seems great when you place the order, but they do not tell you about how many times you will have to visit them to get things repair. They don’t tell you about the hard ride, the cheaper materials used, the fumes getting into the cabin, the rust, the actuators that fail just when you urgently need to go somewhere or even the backyard pigeon shit welding that is done on really important parts of your vehicle. Anyway we inspected another so called cheap price conversion from a very disgruntled customer who is considering a class action lawsuit against the discount company who has modified his vehicle. Are you one of those customers who have purchased one of those modifications from a BUDGET company? Does your vehicle conversion have the following symptoms? Rattling, Shaking, Leaking, Electrical breakdowns, Rust, Exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, High Tire wear, just feel unsafe on the road or received no engineering certificate? Are you a Taxi driver and you are driving to a job and then finding out you can not fit the wheelchair customer or have to jam the customer in? Look, all companies will have some minor problems turn up now or then. We normally don’t criticize our opposition, but we have seen some vehicles recently that we feel obligated to warn you about. There is a reason why these companies can supply a budget conversion and it is not because we overcharge our customers. Just as an example, a concerned BUGET company customer visited us recently with a vehicle we would consider a death-trap. This vehicle had exhaust fumes coming inside of the vehicle, the fuel tank hoses had no hose clamps fitted with a definite fuel smell. Wiring and hoses underneath the vehicle were just hanging loose and could tangle up on anything it may hit on the ground. The way the suspension was done could break any moment and was bending and touching the modified floor. There was a lot of noise and rattling while driving. The customer also told us they never received any Engineering certificate and can not show any info regarding “Beaming & Torsion” tests or “Rear Suspension welding “Particle” test certificates. Some of the other problems observed were, hand brake cable rubbing on rear wheel, exhaust installed rigid with not play at all. Other observations are, steel petrol tank instead of Stainless Steel, inferior materials used, welding on cast iron suspension???? Etc etc. Anyway, if you have one of these vehicles we are willing to do a free written safety check for you. And for those who are considering a budget modification, BE WARNED. To all taxi drivers, we understand that price is an issue, but remember your vehicle must last at least 1 Million Km’s.
